The Oil & Oak Shop

Coming soon…..

It’s finally happening and we are BEYOND excited!

We’re opening a real life bricks and mortar shop in the beautiful Hay-on-Wye. We’ll be supporting local makers and other independent artists and creators. The unit will also encompass a gallery upstairs and a room for workshops as well. I’m really keen for this to become a creative hub within the community, so welcome any involvement from my stockists.

I want to provide the space as cheaply as possible for everyone. I am a working artist myself and know how important affordable passive income is. I’m also a curator, working with artists and makers for the past 5yrs through my Bristol based art collective Tribe Aisthetica – We’ve been running exhibitions, meet-ups and workshops. Artist support is our main focus and this shop will be a wonderful extension of this.

The In's & Out's

I’m excited to announce I’ll be offering x2 FREE shop spaces available to makers in the first 5yrs of their career (no age limit), as part of our support programme. These will be allocated on an application basis. *Update applications are now FULL for this option*

Alongside this, any stockist’s able to give their time to the shop on a regular monthly basis, will be offered a free space at 30% commission on sales. These places are limited to 18 and must be applied for. Your time is money and we recognise that.

We also recognise that some applying will be strictly artists, so we will be offering a flat rate of £5 a month with a commission rate of 40% for all stockists just selling 2D hanging work.

All other suppliers will be stocked on a SOR basis with a fair monthly fee and commission rate. This will be £25 a month with 30% commission rate on sales. This is less than an average market stall. We will be reviewing our costings regularly and if we can make this cheaper for you, we will.

If you have questions about any of this, I’d be more than happy to answer them – please ping me an email.

Why Choose Us?

Hay-on-Wye has a long history supporting independent businesses. You won’t find any chains at all in town. Known as the town of books, it is a destination for anyone visiting the area. The world famous Hay Book Festival draws in crowds of up to 250,000, plus, there is a steady tourist trade throughout the year. The Hay Castle has also been recently renovated, which is set to draw even more visitors to the area.

Our shop is in a prime location on Hay-on-Wye’s main high street, Castle Street. A corner plot with amazing light. We want to fill it with your wonderful creations! Everything will be available online, via this website, as will any artworks on sale via our exhibition space. We will be running regular workshops, which we hope our makers will get involved in. Plus, we will be creating a strong social media presence, with artist take overs, gift ideas, giveaways and competitions.

What next?

If this all sounds right up your street and you’d love to get involved, we want to hear from you, so click on the button below – this will take you to our online application form.

And, if you’re worried about applying, please don’t be. We’re looking for a huge range of products across many disciplines. We want to be as diverse, varied and inclusive as possible. Our aim is for everyone entering the shop to find at least one thing to buy. Even if that’s just a card.
